The graphics card is the most important part of a gaming PC. In 2026, two families lead the market: NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 series (Blackwell) and AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 series (RDNA 4).
Start with your monitor
- 1080p at 60 to 144 Hz: RTX 5060 / 5060 Ti 8 GB, Radeon RX 9060 XT.
- 1440p at 144 to 165 Hz: RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, RTX 5070, Radeon RX 9070.
- 1440p 240 Hz or 4K: RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, Radeon RX 9070 XT.
- 4K ultra with ray tracing: RTX 5080 or RTX 5090.
NVIDIA or AMD?
- NVIDIA: DLSS 4 with multi frame generation, the best ray tracing, and strong tools for streaming, video editing and AI.
- AMD: FSR 4 upscaling, excellent price-to-performance in classic rasterized gaming, and generous video memory.
8 GB or 16 GB of VRAM?
8 GB is still fine for 1080p, but some recent games at high settings need more. If you play at 1440p or keep your card for several years, go for 12 to 16 GB.
Check compatibility
- Your power supply must deliver the recommended wattage and have the right connector (PCIe 8-pin or 12V-2×6).
- Check the card’s length against your case.
- An old CPU can hold back a new card, especially at 1080p.
